Combination Therapy After EMR/ESD for Esophageal Squamous Cell Carcinoma with Submucosal Invasion

چکیده
Recently, nonoperative treatment such as chemotherapy or radiotherapy has commonly been performed for submucosal carcinoma of the esophagus. Although endoscopic mucosal resection1)2) (EMR) or endoscopic submucosal dissection3) (ESD) is usually done as curative treatment for mucosal cancer of the esophagus, the efficacy of multimodal therapy combined with EMR/ESD for esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) with submucosal invasion is controversial. At our hospital, several patients who had SCC with submucosal invasion received multimodal therapy combined with EMR or ESD, and the results are reported here.

Prospective evaluation of the clinical utility of endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) in patients with Barrett’s esophagus: a Western center experience
BACKGROUND AND STUDY AIMS Endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) carries significant advantages over endoscopic mucosal resection. As such, ESD is an established therapy for esophageal squamous cell carcinoma but there are only limited data on ESD as therapy for Barrett's esophagus (BE). Thus, we prospectively evaluated the outcomes of ESD in patients with BE with high-grade dysplasia (HGD) and...

Mortality from esophageal cancer remains high despite advances in medical therapy. Although the incidence of squamous cell carcinoma of the esophagus remains unchanged, the incidence of the esophageal adenocarcinoma has increased over time. Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD and obesity are contributing factors to the development of Barrett's esophagus and subsequent development of adenocarc...
متن کاملEndoscopic Submucosal Dissection Versus Endoscopic Mucosal Resection for Early Esophageal SCC: a Meta-analysis
Early esophageal carcinoma includes mucosal and submucosal carcinomas with or without the presence of lymph node metastasis. The prognosis is good after surgery (Chen et al., 2013). To those without lymph node metastasis, endoscopic resection, such as EMR and ESD, has been suggested as alternatives to esophagectomy in the treatment of these lesions, the effect can be matched with surgery (Inoue...

treatment of choice and an alternative to esophagectomy in the treatment of Barrett’s esophagus with early neoplasia and superficial esophageal cancer limited to the mucosal layer.1 EMR of larger lesions requires piecemeal resection which allows the risk of higher local recurrence than in cases with en bloc resection. Endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) has been successfully applied for the ...
